TJ Askew Earns SCIAC Offensive Player of the Week for CMS Men's Basketball

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Senior forward TJ Askew was named the SCIAC Offensive Player of the Week for games through Sunday, Jan. 2, the league office announced today.

Askew earns his second straight SCIAC award, although the last one was the Defensive Player of the Week on Dec. 20, after tallying three blocks and two steals in a win over Pacific (Ore.). This time around, he becomes the second different Stag to earn the Offensive Player of the Week, joining Josh Angle, who won it after scoring 30 in the season opener at Puget Sound (Matt Meredith has also won the SCIAC Defensive Player of the Week honor on Dec. 6).

In the one game for the Stags this week, an 83-61 win over Whittier, Askew continued his strong season with a strong all-around line of 18 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals. He had his 18 points in only 27 minutes of action, shooting 7-14 from the floor to score in double figures for the ninth time in 10 games this season, as he raised his scoring average up to 16.4 points per game.

The win was the seventh in a row for CMS, which improved to 9-1 on the year and remained undefeated in the SCIAC at 3-0. The Stags will be back in action on Wednesday night for a road game against Caltech, its first of four straight road contests before returning home on Jan. 22 against Redlands.
