The CMS-ence of Mark Sui

CLAREMONT, Calif. - As senior point guard Mark Sui and the Class of 2019 prepare to celebrate their Senior Day tonight, he knows two things about his future plans - it won't be the final home game of his career (CMS earned home court advantage for the SCIAC semifinals on Friday night) and he'll be leaving Claremont McKenna this spring with both a bachelor's degeree in economics and a master's degree in finance after four years to begin his career in the investment banking industry.

Sui stepped into the starting point guard role this year after waiting his turn behind a veteran team that won back-to-back SCIAC titles the last two seasons. The Stags graduated four seniors off of last year's squad, but Sui and the other reserves from a year ago stepped into more prominent roles and have kept the program churning out wins at a high level, heading into tonight's game with Chapman at 18-6 on the year.

Sui feels that the team culture is what keeps the program among the SCIAC leaders seemingly every year.

"It starts with Coach Ken Scalmanini and the way he runs the program," said Sui. "Ever since my freshman year it's been a great culture here, a very hard-working and collaborative culture. People want to see other guys on the team do as well as they can, in everything they want to do in life, and that's really been big."

His teammates have certainly seen Sui achieve that sort of success. He's been on an accelated track academically since arriving, and will leave after four years with both a bachelor's and a master's. He had a summer opportunity working at Moelis & Company, an investment banking firm in San Francisco, and will head back there to begin his full-time career after shedding his scarlet cap and gown in May.

Sui feels that being a part of the men's basketball program over the last four years has been a big part in shaping his collegiate experience.

"I think being a Stag has been extremely important in my life and who I've developed into," he said. "I think I came into college not only wanting to study academics and get a good job, but also to develop into a more well-rounded person, and I think being a Stag has been instrumental for that."
