Nicolas Segura Dobjanschi Named SCIAC Offensive Player of the Week

CLAREMONT, Calif. - After leading the CMS men's basketball team to three road wins, senior forward Nicolas Segura Dobjanschi was named the SCIAC Offensive Player of the Week for games through Sunday, Jan. 13, the league announced today.

Segura Dobjanschi averaged 18.3 points over the three contests, which included a 68-49 road win over Caltech on Monday, followed by two narrow wins over Occidental (63-60) and La Verne (60-57). Segura Dobjanschi had 14 points in the Caltech win, then came up big with a game-high 23 points to help the Stags defeat previously unbeaten Occidental (13-0) on Wednesday. His point total included two clutch free throws with 10 seconds left to push the lead from two to four, which proved to be crucial as the Tigers hit a three-pointer on the ensuing possession.

In the La Verne contest, Segura Dobjanschi capped off his week with his sixth double-double of the year, tallying 18 points and 11 rebounds as the Stags fought off the Leopards down the stretch to improve to 4-1 in the SCIAC. It was the fourth road win in an eight-day span for CMS, beginning with an overtime win at Redlands last week, when Segura Dobjanschi tied the score with 11 seconds left with two clutch free throws.

Segura Dobjanschi becomes the second Stag to earn the SCIAC Offensive Player of the Week honor this season, joining junior forward Jeremy Horn, who earned the honor after the season-opening trip to the Chicago Midway Classic, which included a win over No. 7 Springfield.

The Stags will finally be back at home tonight after the four-game road swing, taking on Cal Lutheran at 7 p.m. at Roberts Pavilion for its first home game of the 2018 calendar year.
