Stags Cruise to Comfortable Victory Over Leopards

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's basketball team scored 90 points in a dominating, 90-63 victory over the La Verne Leopards on Wednesday night. Scott Lynds (CMC) went for 24 points while collecting two rebounds, three steals, and three assists in the victory. Michael Scarlett (CMC) finished a rebound shy of a double-double with 17 points and nine rebounds. Scarlett also added five dimes in 24 minutes on the floor.

Kendrick Morris (CMC) was perfect from the field with a 7-7 shooting effort for an efficient 14 points in the Stags' second SCIAC victory of the season.

A back-and-forth opening to the contest had the Leopards holding a 9-8 lead after 4:19 of play. The Stags quickly went on a 10-0 run over the next 3:44 to take a double-digit lead at 10-9. Four minutes later Scott Lynds knocked down a three off a pass from Scarlett and the Stags held a 32-17 advantage.

A 15-8 run over the final seven minutes of the half gave the Stags a 47-25 lead at the break. The 22-point lead was built in large part by a 60.6% shooting effort by CMS. Lynds had his hands all over the strong half. The senior guard went for 19 points while collecting a pair of rebounds and three steals in 16 minutes on the floor.

CMS continued to build their lead over the first 10 minutes of the second-half. After a layup from Morris with 8:20 remaining in the game, the Stags held their largest lead of the game at 73-40.

The comfortable second-half lead allowed CMS to empty the bench and get every player on the roster into the contest for multiple minutes. As a result, 13 different players found the bottom of the bucket and CMS rolled to the 90-63 victory.

With the win, CMS improves to 2-1 in the SCIAC and will next take the floor on Monday when they host Cal Lutheran at 7:00 p.m.
