Pioneers Down Stags with Big Second-Half

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's basketball team wrapped up their season opening trip to Wisconsin on Saturday, suffering a 74-57 defeat against the Wisconsin-Platteville Pioneers. Kendrick Morris (CMC) and Scott Lynds (CMC) both scored in double-figures on the evening with Morris leading the charge with 15 points.

The Stags and Pioneers were deadlocked at 29-29 after the first-half, but a huge second-half for Platteville gave the Pioneers the 17-point victory. In the second-half, the Stags were held to a 10-33 effort from the field (30.3%) and a 3-13 mark from beyond the arc (23.1%). The Pioneers chased in on their opportunities in the final 20 minutes by going 16-17 from the free throw line (94.1%) and shooting 44.8% from the field (13-29).

It was a tight opening half, but it was the Stags that held a small lead for the majority of the half. The Stags featured a balance scoring effort with nine different players logging point in the opening half. Evan Davis (CMC) led the scoring effort in the half with six points.

Following the break, the Pioneers opened the second-half on a 14-2 run and never looked back. The Stags dropped their second game of the young season and will next take the court when they return to Claremont for the Wells Classic against George Fox at Pomona-Pitzer on Friday at 5:00 p.m.
