Not enough for Stags against Leopards

CLAREMONT, Calif. – In the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's basketball team's first SCIAC game of the season, the Stags came up short against the University of La Verne to the tune of 63-59. In a statistically close game, the Leopards were able to come out on top in the end.

The Stags held the 33-27 lead at halftime after shooting 50% from the field. Sophomore Michael Scarlett (CMC) tossed up a trio of three pointers to be CMS' leading scorer in the half with 11.

In the second half, freshman Evan Davis (CMC) hit two more three point shots to hike up his point total to 15, the highest on the Stags. Unfortunately, the Stags were out-scored 36-25 in the second half and lost steam near the end.

For La Verne, the team's leading scorer, Hakim Arnold, delivered again. Tonight, he made six buckets and was a perfect 6-for-6 at the line.

The Stags (6-4, 0-1 SCIAC) face another conference foe in Occidental (7-3, 1-0 SCIAC) on Wednesday, Jan. 6. CMS hosts the Tigers at 7:30 p.m.
