Full team effort in 80-44 victory over John Jay

New York, N.Y. – Four players on the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's basketball team ended up in double-digit scoring in the 80-44 win over John Jay College of Criminal Justice. This was the first of two games for the Stags on their road trip to Manhattan.

Sophomore Nicolas Segura (CMC) got things going with a long three pointer right out of the gates to give the Stags a lead they would never give up. Sophomore Michael Scarlett (CMC) went for 14 points in the first half, almost personally equaling John Jay's 17 team points. In the first 20 minutes, CMS shot an astonishing 64% including going 5-10 on three point shots.

Senior guard Jack Earley (CMC) led CMS with his consistent play and assisted on three shots in the first four minutes of play and ultimately found four different players for his five assists in the game.

Sophomore forward Joey Malgesini (CMC) and senior center Shelby Lane (CMC) put up the same numbers in each half. The two made back-to-back shots twice during the game.

As the lead continued to increase, more Stags saw minutes in John Jay's fourth floor gym. Freshman Mark Sui (CMC) made a layup to push CMS up 68-36 when Lane found him under the basket with 5:29 on the clock.

Lane and Segura were the next highest scorers for the Stags at 14 and 13 points respectively. Malgesini rounded out the CMS players in double-digits with 10 on the night. The rebounds were spread evenly among the Stags with Segura, Malgesini, junior Riley Hall (CMC), and sophomore Kendrick Morris (CMC) all recording six in the game.

The Stags were the most efficient they have been yet this season shooting 53.3% from the field.

For John Jay, Essien Epps scored 11 points after playing essentially the whole game.

CMS (2-2) plays another game in the Big Apple today, Saturday, Nov. 21, at Hunter College. The Stags play at 5 p.m. (EST) just after the women's team at 3 p.m. (EST)
