Stags close out first semester with win over Warriors

CLAREMONT, Calif. - CMS finished off their first semester schedule with a 79-64 home win over Westmont College on Saturday night.  The first 14 minutes of the game was back and forth with four lead changes and five ties, the last of which was 19-19 with just over six minutes remaining.  The Stags took over for the remainder of the half with a 19-6 run that put them up 38-25 at halftime.

CMS (7-1) built up their lead to as much as 19 in the second half and never led by less than 11 points in the final 20 minutes.  The Stags shot 55.8% (29-52) in the game and were especially hot on two-point baskets where they hit 68.7% (22-32) for the game including 76.5% (13-17) in the first half.

The Stags' posts, Shelby Lane and Nick Lund, contributed greatly to the high field goal percentage as they combined to shoot 14-18 (77.8%) from the field.  Lane tied his season high with 18 points and added seven rebounds.  Lund added a season high 10 points.  Tyler Gaffaney led the Stags with 21 points, seven rebounds, six assists and three steals.

Gerald Karczewski and Cory Blau shared the team lead for Westmont (6-5) with 15 points each.  Daniel Carlin added 11 points and a team leading 10 rebounds.
