Zach Fogel Featured in Summer Issue of NCAA Champion Magazine

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Rising sophomore quarterback Zach Fogel of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps football team is the subject of a feature in the summer edition of NCAA Champion Magazine, centering on his dual passions of theater and football, which was published online this morning.

Fogel put together an extensive resume in theater during his time at La Habra High School in Southern California, and had the opportunity to pursue a career on Broadway after graduating last spring. However, his talents also spread to the football field, where he was a league MVP as the quarterback for the school's football team, as well as to the classroom, where he was ranked No. 3 in his graduating class.

At age 18, Fogel was in the very enviable position of having several great choices in front of him. His love of football, and the chance to get a top-notch education at Claremont McKenna, eventually won out, and he joined the Stags last spring, earning two starts as a first-year quarterback. One of those starts came in the program's first-ever NCAA Division III Tournament game at Whitworth, when he threw for 189 yards and rushed for a touchdown.

"It's more than a game," Fogel told Hannah Johnson of Champion. "It's a gift that eventually won't be bestowed on me anymore, so I'm going to cherish it while I can."

Fogel and the Stags will look to begin their quest to return tot he NCAA Division III Tournament when they open their 2019 season at Puget Sound on Saturday, Sept. 7. CMS has its first home game on Sept. 21, when it hosts Pacific Lutheran at 1 p.m. at Zinda Field and then will begin defense of its 2018 SCIAC title when it plays at La Verne on Oct. 5.
