CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps football team made program history yesterday with a 16-9 win over Chapman, which gave the Stags a SCIAC title, their first since the 1987 season.

CMC videographer Anibal Ortiz was on hand to get an up-close and personal look at history being made, as the Stags won with an old-school "smashmouth" style of football - running the ball 64 times behind a veteran offensive line and holding a high-powered Chapman offense to only nine points (one offensive touchdown and a safety) and 175 yards.

The Stags will try for an undefeated SCIAC season and the outright league title next Saturday at Pomona-Pitzer, and then move on to the NCAA Division III Tournament on Nov. 17.
