CLAREMONT, Calif. - As one of the seniors on the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps football team, offensive lineman and co-captain Jackson Tate has a chance to clinch the program's first SCIAC title in 31 years on his senior day tomorrow, when the Stags host Chapman at 1 p.m. at Zinda Field.

Tate and the offensive line (where four of the nine seniors on the team play) have been a big part of this season's success, paving the way for running back Garrett Cheadle (SCIAC-leading 1,102 yards, including a school-record 274 las week) and leading a ball-control offense that has chewed up huge chunks of fourth-quarter clock to protect leads. The senior class is now the winningest class in program history with 24 wins in four years, and they have two chances at win No. 25, which would give the Stags the SCIAC crown and send the team on to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

When he is not studying the opposing team's 3-4 D, Tate can be found studying 3-D molecular models as a biophysics major at Claremont McKenna, where is a SCIAC All-Academic team selection and an Academic All-America nominee. He takes advantage of the consortium set-up of the Claremont Colleges to take courses in the Keck Science Department and at Harvey Mudd College, and spent his summer at a laboratory in Memphis performing mock surgeries for medical research.
