Cade Moffatt Named to D3football.com Team of the Week

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Sophomore cornerback Cade Moffatt was named to the D3football.com National Team of the Week, it was announced by the website this morning.

Moffatt earned the honor after helping the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps defense hold Cal Lutheran to only 10 points in a 17-10 home win on Saturday. Moffatt had seven tackles on the day (all solo) and two pass break-ups, while having a key role in killing the final Cal Lutheran drive. After the Kingsmen took over on the CMS 32 following a long punt return and trailing 17-10, Moffatt broke up a pass on second down and then had a key tackle on a quarterback scramble after only a one-yard gain, forcing a long field goal attempt that missed with 9:29 remaining, and the Stag offense was able to kill the rest of the clock.

Overall, CMS held the Kingsmen to only 272 yards of total offense and 11 first downs in winning a defensive battle. The Stags have now allowed only 47 points over their last four contests, since allowing 45 on opening day to Puget Sound.

The Stags are currently one of two teams tied for first in the SCIAC at 2-0 in league play, and they will meet the other this Saturday in a battle for sole possession of first place in the league when they travel to Redlands for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
