Jake Norville Captures SCIAC Football Offensive Player of the Week

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Sophomore quarterback Jake Norville was named the SCIAC Football Offensive Player of the Week for games through Sunday, Sept. 30, it was announced today by the league office.

Norville earned the honor after helping the Stags start off SCIAC play with a 37-24 win over La Verne on Saturday at Zinda Field. After getting injured early in a Sept. 8 win over Northwestern (Minn.) and missing the Sept. 15 game at Pacific Lutheran, Norville returned to the lineup and threw four touchdowns with no interceptions to lead CMS to the win.

The first half saw Norville throw touchdowns to three different receivers to put the Stags ahead 21-10 at the break. He opened the scoring with a touchdown pass to sophomore receiver Ethan Takeyama, and then found sophomore running back Justin Leonard to put CMS ahead 14-3. After La Verne closed to within 14-10, Norville threw a key fourth-down touchdown from the one-yard with 17 seconds in the half, finding freshman tight end William Smith

Norville then capped off his day by finding sophomore tight end Theo Chamberlain from a yard out early in the fourth quarter to put the Stags ahead 34-17, before CMS turned exclusively to the ground game down the stretch to run out the clock. He ended up 16-of-25 passing for 207 yards on the day.

CMS will be back in action on Saturday when it hosts Cal Lutheran for another home game at Zinda Field, beginning at 1 p.m.
