Upward trend expected to continue; Coaches have CMS in top spot in SCIAC Preseason Poll
PASADENA, Calif. – Claremont-Mudd-Scripps football has been selected as the preseason favorite to win the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) title in 2016. The Stags claimed six first-place votes for a total of 12 points in the poll of the eight SCIAC head coaches.
CMS finished the SCIAC regular season at 6-1 in 2015, 7-2 overall. CMS is expected to carry its momentum from last season into the new campaign. With six wins in conference in 2015, CMS ended the season in second place in conference, their highest finish in SCIAC since 2003 when CMS tied for second. Six conference wins is the most ever for a CMS team and CMS also set the program scoring record last season.
The Stags are in search of their first conference championship since a co-championship in 1987.
Lewis & Clark pays CMS a visit on Sept. 10 for the season-opener. SCIAC play begins on Oct. 1 with a home game against Whittier.

The preseason poll rankings were conducted by the SCIAC football coaches with each coach predicting the finish of the 2016 season. This is the first year the SCIAC has held preseason polls and they are now planned to become a part of the preseason for all 21 conference-sponsored sports moving forward.
