Stags Second at SCIAC's

The men's cross country tied for the second at the SCIAC Cross Country Championships over the weekend. Occidental finished first with 34 points and CMS tied with Pomona-Pitzer with 53 points. CMS finishes second in the final SCIAC standings due to their 24-32 win over Pomona-Pitzer at the SCIAC Multi-Dual.

First Team All-SCIAC honors were earned by Dan Hayman (SR, Marysville, WA) in 4th and Mike Van Antwerp (SO, Reno, NV) in 9th. Hayman is the third CMS runner to earn First Team honors four times while Van Antwerp earned his second First Team award. Second Team All-SCIAC honors were earned by Brad Johnson (JR, Berkeley) in 11th, James Moore (SR, Mercer Island, WA) in 14th, Adam Coleman (JR, Clayton) in 15th, and Chris Gurney (SO, Ventura) in 16th.

Other runners for the Stags in the 90-man field included Ethan Meyers (FR, Pacific Palisades, 22nd), Reed Lyon (SR, Bellingham, WA, 26th), Jamie Gunn (JR, Grants Pass, WA, 30th), Victor Camacho (SR, Watsonville, 36th), Matt Kurtis (FR, Bellingham, WA, 39th), Daniel Jensen (JR, San Jose, 44th), Asaf Bernstein (JR, Swampscott, MA, 45th), Mike Peel (SR, Tucson, AZ, 47th), Alex Kurtis (FR, Bellingham, WA, 48th), Dave Abernethy (FR, Fullerton, 55th), Nate Chenette (SR, Grinnell, IA, 56th), Dan Garcia (FR, Bonita, 57th), Jeff Jones (JR, Phoenix, AZ, 58th), Nik Miller (FR, Pasadena, 60th), Kyle Block (FR, Thousand Oaks, 62nd) and Kyle Zarzana (SR, Sacramento, 75th).

The team will next compete at the NCAA West Regional on Saturday, November 11. The race will be at 9:00 at Prado Regional Park in Chino. The meet serves as a qualifier for the NCAA Division III Championships.
