Athenas Open SCIAC Play With A Win

In the first SCIAC game of the season, the Athenas (3-1) played Cal Lutheran (2-1) on Cal Lu's home field. CMS started off the game a little slow, and despite some dangerous attacks and a few corner kicks by Cal Lu, the game was tied 0-0 at halftime. In the second half, the Athenas came out strong, scoring a goal only ten minutes into the half. The goal came off of a quick counter attack in which Giselle Gallanto (SR, Duarte) played a through pass to Laura Hagen running onto goal. Hagen dribbled around the CLU keeper to finish and generate some momentum for the Athenas. They continued to attack with several opportunities to score, but failed to finish their opportunities again until the 78th minute, when Arlyn Madsen-Bond (JR, Cambridge, MA) sent a beautiful cross to the center of the box, where Rachel Bunting (SO, Eugene, OR) headed the ball into the goal to seal the game for the Athenas. In the second half, the Regals had only 2 shots, while the Athenas continued to attack the CLU goal until the game was over.  CMS improved to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in SCIAC.

This Saturday CMS will play La Verne at home at 11 am.
