Athenas 4-0 In SCIAC After Win Over Regals
Despite rainy, wet and muddy conditions, the CMS Athenas were able to capture another SCIAC win with a victory against the hosting Cal Lutheran Regals. The win boosted the Athenas to a 6-3 overall record and 4-0 SCIAC record while the Regals dropped to 2-5-1 and 1-1-1. CMS has now been involved in eight one-goal games this season and are 5-3 in those game including 3-0 in SCIAC.
Both teams had lots of great opportunities to score in the first half, leaving those watching on the edge of their seats. However, no one was able to find the back of the net until only a minute and thirty seconds remained in the first half. Amanda Drasny (JR, San Jose) sent a beautiful ball off a free kick into the box that went off the foot of Brittney Watson (JR, Seattle, WA) to Arlyn Madson-Bond (FR, Cambridge, MA [pictured]), who was able to place the ball nicely giving the Athenas a 1-0 lead.
Knowing that the Regals always put up a good fight, both teams came out strong the second half. Goalkeeper Camila Friedman-Gerlicz (SO, Santa Fe, NM) made some remarkable saves to keep the second half scoreless and help the Athenas to a 1-0 victory.
The Athenas' next game is Wednesday, September 26 at Occidental at 4:00.
