Athenas Fall To Lions

On a cooler day than their first two games, the Athenas soccer team lost a close game 3-2 to Vanguard University.  CMS fell to 1-2 overall while the Lions improved to 3-1-1.  CMS will return to action on Friday.  They will host Cal State East Bay on Friday, September 7 at 7:00.

The team came out a bit flat on the defensive side of things and went down early 1-0.  The team battled back to score late in the first half with a nice goal by Heather Marra (JR, Phoenix, AZ).  She was put through by a nice pass from Brittany Pineros (FR, Mukilteo, WA) and the teams entered the half tied at one.  At the beginning of the second half, Vanguard started to take control and scored two unanswered goals.  With five minutes to go, the Athenas made a push and closed the gap to 3-2 on Megan Kum's (SR, South Pasadena) second goal of the season off a corner from Brittany Watson (JR, Sammamish, WA, pictured).  The Athenas kept up the pressure in the closing minutes with several chances, but could not get the tying goal.
