CMS Stags Fall 2-0 To Biola University Eagles

The men's soccer team starts off its season with a 0-2-0 record as they lose 2-0 to the Biola University Eagles. CMS hosted Biola in this preseason non-conference match on an unusually cool night at Pritzlaff Field. The Eagles got on the board early in the game as they converted a penalty kick in the 30th minute after a hand-ball in the box was called on the CMS defense. The Stags had their best chance of the night when Tomislav Zbozinek (JR, Paradise Valley, AZ [pictured]) sent a beautiful, cross-field ball over the top of the opponents defense to meet Mitchell Skotarczyk (SO, Brea) who brought the ball down with precision and fired his shot past the keeper, but past the post as well. Biola struck again in the 48th minute with a one-on-one opportunity following a defensive mistake. Overall, the Stags were outshot 13-6 on the night and committed 8 fouls while the Eagles committed 16. This game allowed CMS Coach Dan Calichman to play many of his substitutes and see some record the first minutes of their collegiate career.
The Stags will play host to Linfield College in their next meeting on Friday, September 12th at 1:00 PM. This will be the first NCAA- Division III opponent they will meet this season as they hope to improve their record before the beginning of SCIAC play.
