Kelly, Korson, Shaw Earn Spots on All-SCIAC Second Team for CMS Baseball

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Senior shortstop Evan Kelly, junior pitcher Jarrett Korson and sophomore second baseman Tyler Shaw earned spots on the All-SCIAC second team in a vote of the league's coaches, the conference office announced today.

Kelly finished his senior season with a .292 batting average, including a team-high 11 doubles and three home runs. In conference games, he hit .326 with seven doubles and three homers for a .535 slugging percentage, which led the Stags, including a big three-run homer in a win over eventual league champion Chapman. He also turned 16 double plays in SCIAC games and had a .931 fielding percentage at shortstop. 

Korson took over as the No. 1 pitcher in the CMS rotation a couple of weeks into the season and led the Stags with eight wins, finishing the year 8-2. He compiled 72 strikeouts and only 23 walks, averaging 8.38 strikeouts per nine innings, while finishing with a 4.07 ERA. In league games, Korson was 5-1 with a 3.55 ERA and 36 strikeouts against only 13 walks. He allowed no earned runs in four of his starts, including league games against La Verne and Occidental. 

Shaw was a mainstay at second base and in the top spot in the CMS batting order, where he hit .331 with a .419 on-base percentage, to go along with a team-high 43 runs scored and 34 RBI. He had eight doubles and three homers on the year, and improved his numbers to .354 in conference contests. Defensively, he had a .975 fielding percentage with only four errors on the year (just two of which came in SCIAC). 

The three All-SCIAC honorees helped CMS to a 24-15 final record and a 14-10 mark in SCIAC. The 24 wins were the most for the program since the 1997 team tallied 25.
