CMS Baseball Captures ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps baseball team earned a Team Academic Excellence Award from the American Baseball Coaches Association for the 2019-20 academic year, the organization announced today.

The Stags were one of 278 NCAA programs from all three divisions to earn an ABCA academic honor this season, including one of four from the SCIAC.  It marks the third year in a row that CMS has earned its way onto the ABCA's list of top academic programs.

In addition to the team academic honor, CMS also had 18 players earn their way onto the SCIAC All-Academic team this year, which was up from 12 a year ago. An impressive total of 23 of the Stags' 29 undergraduates also had GPAs of 3.3 or higher during the 2019-20 academic year.

One other academic honor for the Stags in 2019-20 was senior shortstop Zach Clarke earning his way on to the Academic All-District 8 team by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Clarke was an All-SCIAC and All-West Region selection a year ago, as was senior pitcher Justin Hull, who was also a SCIAC All-Academic Team member this year.
