Patrick Gavin Named SCIAC Hitter of the Week for CMS Baseball

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Junior second baseman Patrick Gavin earned the SCIAC Baseball Hitter of the Week Award for games through Sunday, March 1, the league office announced today.

Gavin earned the honor after having a big day at the plate in a CMS doubleheader sweep of Redlands on Saturday. Gavin was 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI in a narrow 4-2 win in the opener, and then added a 2-for-4, four-RBI effort in the nightcap.

The second game saw Gavin hit an early RBI double to stake the Stags to a 2-0 lead. CMS built its lead to 5-0, before Redlands chipped away and got back within 5-3 in the seventh. Gavin, though, stopped the Bulldog comeback effort in its tracks with a big three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh to effectively put the game away.

With his .625 performance in the doubleheader, Gavin now is hitting an even .400 on the season, while leading CMS in homers with two and tying for the team lead in RBI with nine.

CMS will be back in action on Saturday at Redlands, when the two teams will complete their suspended game from Friday afternoon (tied 8-8 in the tenth inning) and then play a non-conference game. The Stags will be back at home on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. to face Whitman, and then another non-conference home game against Ithaca on Monday at 3 p.m.
