Gavin, Hull, and Levenson Honored by the SCIAC

LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. – Three Stags were honored earlier this week when the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) released their end of season awards and All-Conference baseball teams. Patrick Gavin (CMC) was named the Newcomer of the Year for the SCIAC after a successful freshman campaign that saw the Stags' second basemen lead the team with seven home runs. Sophomores Justin Hull (CMC) and Henri Levenson (CMC) each collected Second Team accolades.

Gavin made an immediate impact for the Stags, homering in his first career at-bat and was an important piece of the Stags' line-up ever since. Gavin appeared in 39 games this season, batting .247 with seven home runs, nine doubles, 28 RBI, 29 runs scored, and three stolen bases. As mentioned, Gavin's seven home runs led the team and he finished second on the squad with 17 extra-base hits. Across the boards, Gavin's numbers in conference were better than his none-conference totals. In SCIAC games, Gavin's average went up nearly 30 points and he slugged almost 50 points higher, thanks to 11 extra-base hits in 23 conference tilts.

Justin Hull earned his first All-SCIAC nod with a Second Team honor in 2018. Hull turned himself into the Stags' staff ace over the course of the season and was especially rock solid for CMS during SCIAC play. The righty, led the Stags with 77.2 innings pitched and compiled an ERA of 4.17. He was better in conference play, tossing 56.0 innings in eight starts, tossing to the tune of a 3.21 ERA with an opponent batting average of .248.

On the season, Hull struck out 60 batters and walked 21 while pitching to a 5-3 record. He was 5-1 in SCIAC games, including his best start of the year on Mar. 4 against La Verne. In that start, Hull tossed a complete game, scattering seven hits and allowing one run (unearned) while striking out five.

Joining Hull on the Second Team was right fielder Henri Levenson. Over the course of the season, Levenson turned into the Stags' leadoff hitter in flourished in the spot. In the second-half of the season, Levenson recorded 13 multi-hit games including four-straight to end the season. On the year, the sophomore batted .311 with four home runs, 31 RBI, 26 runs scored, and three stolen bases.

Levenson was far better in SCIAC games batting at a .343 clip with eight extra-base hits and a .398 on-base percentage. The Second Team nod is the first All-SCIAC honor in Levenson's career.

The Stags finished the season with an overall record of 18-22 and a 9-15 mark in the SCIAC. CMS ended the year on a high-note with a doubleheader sweep of Cal Lutheran on the final day of the regular season to knock the Kingsmen out of the SCIAC Tournament.
