Stags Split with Red Devils and Bombers in Non-Conference Tilts

CLAREMONT, Calif. – On Monday afternoon the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps baseball team split a doubleheader on Arce Field. CMS earned a 9-7 victory in Game One against the Dickinson Red Devils before falling the nightcap of the doubleheader by a 4-2 final score. The Stags were led on the day by Henri Levenson (CMC), Patrick Gavin (CMC), and Ryan Motter (CMC) who each drove home multiple runs on the day.

Game One – CMS defeats Dickinson 9-7

The Stags' offense continued their recent streak of hot hitting and scored eight runs in the first three innings of the contest. A CJ Novogradac (CMC) RBI triple and an infield single from Brandon Mitchell got the Stags on the board in the bottom of the first before CMS added three runs in both second and the third to take an 8-2 lead.

Dickinson chipped away at the Stags' lead throughout the later innings, but were unable to find the big-hit late in the game and CMS earned a 9-7 victory. Levenson, Gavin, and Carson Bridges (CMC) led CMS with two hits each. Gavin drove home three runs in the game while Levenson collected two RBI.

Game Two – Ithaca defeats CMS 4-2

The second-half the Monday doubleheader was a pitching dominated contest between the Stags and the Bombers. Ithaca dented the scoreboard first with two runs in the top of the third before CMS tied it up in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run single by Ryan Motter.

The game remained level at 2-2 until the top of the seventh when the Bombers took the lead back with a two-run double by Andrew Bailey down the left field line.

The Stags put a runner on in both the seventh and ninth, but were unable to chase him home and fell by the 4-2 final.

After the split, the Stags move to 13-8 and are over half-way done with the regular season. They will take an 11 day break before getting back on the field against the Occidental Tigers on Friday, Mar. 23 at 3:00 p.m. on Arce Field.
