Big second inning lifts Stags over Caltech

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps baseball team faced off against Caltech on Friday afternoon and defeated the Beavers 10-0 in seven innings. This is the first win for the Stags in SCIAC play on the season.

Caltech started out well from the plate but CMS was able to pull it together defensively and keep the Beavers off the board, despite having the bases loaded to end the first and second innings. In the top of the second inning, the Stags found their bats, scoring eight consecutive runs. Both team traded three scoreless innings until Robby Weissenfels (CMC) scored on a single to left center by Michael Gose (CMC) in the sixth inning to end the game 10-0.

Gose ended the game with two hits, two runs, two stolen bases and one RBI in his three at bats. Weissenfels led all players with three hits in his four at bats and MacKenzie Menthen (CMC) picked up the win from the mound as well as recording two hits, one  run and an RBI of his own at the plate.

The first in a three game series, the Stags will play at Caltech tomorrow (Saturday, March 28) in a double header in Pasadena, starting at 11:00 A.M. With the win, CMS goes to 3-24 on the year and 1-15 in SCIAC play.
