Big fourth inning pushes Kingsmen past Stags

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps baseball team faced California Lutheran in SCIAC action Friday afternoon and lost 11-1.

The Stags stayed with the Kingsmen for the first two innings but then CLU broke away in the third, scoring ten unanswered runs. The only run scored by CMS was by pitcher and designated hitter MacKenzie Menthen (CMC), when second baseman Jackson Umberger (CMC) hit a double to left center and was awarded an RBI.

Menthen was sensational from the plate with four hits at four at bats and one stolen base.  However, the Stags struggled at the mound and the CLU hitters scored in five out of nine innings, including four in the third and three in the ninth. Cal Lu's shortstop, Max Price stood out with three hits, three RBI, one run and one walk during his five at bats.

The Stags are still in search for their first win as CLU goes to 9-1 overall and to second place in the SCIAC.

The first of a three game series, the Stags will play at Cal Lutheran tomorrow (Mar. 7) in a double header starting at 11:00 a.m.
