Road win over Whittier for the Stags

CLAREMONT, Calif. – Despite being out of contention for the post-season, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps baseball team won a hard-fought game against Whittier (7-4) on Sunday afternoon in the third game of Round Robin play. The Stags (14-24, 10-17) won with outstanding play on both sides of the ball.

Senior Andor Kesselman led from the mound and pitched a complete game allowing just six hits. Yesterday was Kesselman's second complete game of season and the first going all nine innings.

The Stags' offense supported him with seven runs off ten hits.

The game was tied going into the top of the fifth until CMS broke out and took the lead. In the fifth inning, the speedy Scott Witte scored from second on a single by sophomore Mackenzie Menthen to left to kick start the scoring. The Stags capitalized on a Poet error and sophomore Samuel Woodman singled to score senior Yoni Hendel for the third run of the inning.

CMS tacked on an insurance run in the sixth with an opposite field homer by Witte.

Woodman went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI while junior John Rizzo was 2-for-4 at the plate.
