Rally Comes Up Short On Senior Day

CLAREMONT, Calif.—The bid for a comeback victory for the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps baseball team fell short as the Stags fell 9-8 to the Occidental Tigers at Arce Field.  The Tuesday game concluded the 2013 season for CMS as they finish the year 5-23 in SCIAC play and 8-29 overall.

On a day where the seniors were honored the Stags found themselves down by three going into the bottom of the third. Brett Watanabe would start the inning with a line drive double and would eventually score when, with the bases loaded, Samuel Woodman hit a two run single to left field. Later a fielder's choice by senior Brian Bartlett would score fellow senior Sam Katz to tie the game. The Stags would collect eleven hits on the day while drawing seven walks.

Occidental would again claim a lead, but CMS would not go away easily. They would score four in the seventh and one in the eighth, highlighted by a bases loaded single from Ray Hurwitz that scored Jack Witte and Scott Witte. However, the comeback would end in the bottom of the ninth as the Stags, down by one run, could not capitalize with runners on first and second and one out.

Hurwitz lead the Stags at the plate going 3-4 with 2 RBI.
