Stags Drop Game 1 in SCIAC Round Robin Play Against Cal Lu

CLAREMONT, Calif. — The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps baseball team hosted California Lutheran Kingsmen, Wednesday April 24, at Arce Field. The Stags fought hard, but with a few hit batters, walks and timely hitting by Cal Lu, the Kingsmen won the first of four games in the SCIAC Round Robin play, 14-1. The Stags are now 8-26 overall and 5-20 in SCIAC play.

Cal Lu took advantage of a couple walks in the top half of the third inning to load the bases, when the Kingsmen Nick Boggan hit a double to right center to take the early 3-0 lead. They added three more runs in the fourth, two in the fifth and finished with five in the ninth. The Stags defense looked sharp and turned four double plays on the day.

Dustin Green led the way for the Stags at the plate, going 2-for-3 and a walk. Senior William Knowles also had a nice day at the dish, going 2-for-5 with the lone run scored. Junior Ray Hurwitz had the RBI walk with the bases loaded.

The Stags play next on Saturday April 27, at the University of La Verne.  First pitch is slated for 11:00 AM.
