Slow Start For Stags Leads To Defeat

CLAREMONT, Calif.—The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps baseball team could not overcome a nine run second inning from California Lutheran University Friday afternoon, falling 18-1 at Arce Field.

CMS quickly found themselves in a hole as California Lutheran took advantage of four walks and four hit batters to score 13 runs in the first three innings.  The Stags lone run came in the bottom of the third when Dustin Green, Brian Bartlett, and Alan Toscano singled in consecutive at-bats to load the bases. Later in the inning Jack Witte would ground out to first, scoring Green.

Kingsmen junior pitcher Jake Petersen went the distance limiting the Stags to four hits over seven innings while Garrett Smith led all hitters going 3-4 with 5 RBI for CLU.

CMS will complete the three game series with the Kingsmen tomorrow at George "Sparky" Anderson Field in Thousand Oaks with the doubleheader starting at 11 AM.
