Watanabe, Levihn-Coon Spark Eighth Inning Comeback

CLAREMONT, Calif.—Seven runs in the bottom of the eighth helped the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps baseball team comeback to win in dramatic fashion 9-8 against Pacifica University Wednesday at Arce Field.

CMS found themselves in an early hole as after three innings the Stags trailed 6-1. The Stags lone run came off the bat of Jack Witte who singled to score Dustin Green. In the bottom of the fifth Ray Hurwitz would help tack on one more with an RBI single. Hurwitz was one of nine Stags who collected hits on the day.

The Stags bats erupted in the eighth, starting with a Brett Watanabe leadoff single. He would eventually score, along with Hurwitz who had walked, when sophomore Andrew Levihn-Coon blasted a double deep to left center.  Green, William Knowles, and J. Witte would follow with RBI. With two outs, Watanabe would then put the exclamation mark on the comeback with a single that scored both the tying and winning runs.

Junior Luke Mayer pitched a perfect ninth to collect the save.

The Stags return to Arce Field to continue conference play against California Lutheran Friday at 3 PM.
