Stags Battle, Fall In Extra Innings To Occidental

CLAREMONT, Calif.-The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps baseball team lost 6-5 in extra innings to Occidental College Friday afternoon at Arce Field.

Game one of the three game weekend series with the Occidental Tigers saw the Stags score three runs in the bottom of the fourth. Austin Gomez scored on a Michael Gose single to start the scoring followed by consecutive bases loaded walks to Brett Watanabe and Ray Hurwitz to take a 4-2 lead. Hurwitz finished the day with a team-high 2 RBI.

CMS continued to battle back after the Tigers went up 5-4 when freshman Jack Witte homered over the right field fence in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game. The Stags would then have an opportunity to win it in the bottom of the ninth with the bases loaded against Occidental reliever Scott Hong, but he was able to induce an inning ending double play.

Jack Witte and Scott Witte ended the day each going 3-for-5 while junior RHP Andor Kesselman pitched over seven innings, striking out six.

The Stags will travel to Eagle Rock Saturday for a double header against Occidental at Anderson Field.
