Stags Fall To Division II Azusa Pacific In Season Opener

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps baseball team opened the season with a 4-1 loss against Division II foe Azusa Pacific University on Friday at Arce Field.

Azusa got off to an early lead with a run in both the second and third innings to take a 2-0 lead. The Stags answered in the bottom of the fourth when Dustin Green's deep sacrifice fly to left scored Brett Watanabe to make it 2-1.

Austin Gomez and Clayton Brock were solid in relief for CMS going 3 innings and 2 2/3 innings respectively, giving up no runs, and striking out three.  Azusa was led by Ryan Henley who had three hits and two RBI on the day.

CMS is back at Arce Field tomorrow, February 2nd, for their annual alumni game at 11 AM.
