Stags Upset #2 Panthers

Stags Upset #2 Panthers

CMS staged a late inning rally to win at Chapman, ranked second nationally, 3-1 on Tuesday evening.  The Stags (2-4) had lost 17 straight to the Panthers (4-2).

CMS fell behind 1-0 in the third inning when Chapman collected three of their four hits in the game off starter Brett Watanabe (pictured).  Panther starter Travis McGee allowed just two baserunners and did not give up a hit until the seventh, but the Stags finally got on the board in the eighth.  Watanabe led off the inning with a single.  After being sacrificed to second, he advanced to third and scored on two passed balls to tie the game at one.

An error on the Panther third baseman allowed Watanabe to come up with two outs and two runners on in the ninth and he delivered with a game-winning two-run double.  The Panthers attempted to rally in the bottom of the inning and loaded the bases with two walks and an error, but Stag reliever Michael Erb struck out the final batter to pick up the win.

CMS will travel to Arizona this weekend for the Arizona Desert Classic.  They will play Linfield College and George Fox University on Friday, University of Texas-Dallas on Saturday and McMurry University on Sunday.
