Stags Take Two Of Three From Sagehens

In a dual of pitchers with pro aspirations, CMS fell 6-2 at Pomona-Pitzer, ranked 14th nationally. CMS ace Alex Sunderland threw six and two thirds innings allowing four earned runs. Brett Watanabe and Matt Rothlisberger had two hits apiece. The Stags struggled offensively for most of the day before breaking through in the eighth for two runs, but it was too little too late in this one.

Lefty David Ulrich took the mound the in the second game of the series. He deftly controlled the Sagehen lineup all afternoon. He continued his strong season with a masterful complete game four-hit shutout that earned him SCIAC Player of the Week Honors. The offense backed him with sixteen hits, four by William Knowles, and six runs, two scored by Anthony Bouvier.

Head Coach Randy Town rolled out crafty lefty Chad Hadzinsky (pictured) in the final game of the weekend. Hadzinsky responded with a complete game of his own, allowing one earned run and striking out eight Hens. Mark Gose had three hits and Jason Rehhaut had three RBIs as the Stags took charge early on the offensive end. CMS never relinquished the lead and won the decisive game by a final tally of 7-2.

CMS improves to 8-11 overall and even up their SCIAC record at 6-6.  They take on four non-California teams next weekend in the 16th Annual California Invitational tournament.
