CMS Falls To The Master's Despite Strong Pitching

In their road opener, the CMS baseball team (0-2) suffered a 6-2 defeat at the hands of The Master's College (5-2).  The pitching staff no-hit the Mustangs for five innings and only allowed two earned runs, but four unearned runs led to the loss.

Senior Alex Sunderland (pictured) started off on the hill for CMS, as he did in the team's opener, and faced the minimum, with one strikeout, in two shutout innings of work. Junior David Ulrich followed up with three strong innings of his own, allowing only one unearned run. Sophomore Chad Hadzinsky and junior Kyle Shipley finished up the final three innings, combining for five runs allowed but only two earned. Junior Jason Rehhaut and seniors Alex Varga and Matt Rothlisberger each had two hits for the Stags, who tallied eight base knocks on the day. The Stags tied the game at 2-2 in the middle of the seventh, but let the game slip away in the final three innings. Although CMS outhit The Master's, four errors and eight runners left on base plagued the Stags in the loss.

CMS begins SCIAC play on Friday, February 11 at Redlands at 2:30.  Their SCIAC home opener is a doubleheader with the Bulldogs on Saturday, February 12 with game one starting at 11:00.
