CMS Sweeps Cal State East Bay

The baseball team defeated Cal State East Bay 5-3 and 8-7 in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Arce Field. With timely hitting and solid pitching, CMS brought their record to 2-1 on the season while East Bay fell to 2-2.

Game one saw the Stags trailing 2-0 in the sixth inning when Morgan Cummins (SR, Coronado) hit a three run home run to put the Stags ahead. Cal State tied the score in the seventh. Max Rose (FR, Shell Beach) would homer in the eighth, a two run shot that would put CMS ahead for good. Cummins came through again in the ninth for the save. Ryan Jeffery (SR, Santa Barbara) pitched six strong innings for the win.

In game two, CMS jumped out to a 3-1 lead and held on down the stretch. The win was thanks in large part to Andrew Blomberg (SO, Honolulu, HI). He went 4-5 with two home runs and three RBI's. The home runs, one from the right side of the plate and the other from the left, were the first time in CMS history a player has homered from both sides of the plate in the same game. David Noble (JR, San Diego) was the winning pitcher and Cummins earned his second save of the day as the Stags finished the day with an 8-7 victory.

The Stags next contest will be Friday February 16th at 2:30pm against Pacific University at home.
