CLAREMONT, Calif. – Melanie Moore hit .388 for the CMS volleyball team at the East-West Challenge on Friday and Saturday, and repeatedly came up big in the clutch to help the Athenas to wins over No. 6 Emory and No. 28 Texas-Dallas, earning a share of the Tournament MVP honors.

In the Emory match, Moore had the clinching block in the third set for a 25-23 win which gave CMS a 2-1 lead, and then followed that up with a clinching solo block in the fourth set with the score 24-22 to seal the victory on Friday night. She then followed that up on Saturday morning with a big fifth-set performance in a 3-2 win over Texas-Dallas, tallying five of her 11 kills in the decisive fifth. She had kills for four straight Athena points early in the fifth to keep her team in it, and then had the final kill with the score 14-12 to clinch the win for the second match in a row, extending the CMS win streak to nine.

CMS will be back in action tonight when it travels to La Verne for its SCIAC opener, before returning to Roberts Pavilion on Saturday for a SCIAC match with Redlands at 4 p.m.
