Andreas Roeseler - Men's Swimming and Diving

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Sophomore Andreas Roeseler had a key role in helping the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's swimming and diving team complete its SCIAC regular season with a sweep in a tri-meet with Cal Lutheran and La Verne on Saturday afternoon at Axelrood Pool.

Roeseler won both of the freestyle sprint events on the day, taking the 50 free in a time of 21.22, edging teammate Marco Conati by 15 hundredths of a second. Roeseler then adding another win in the 100 free in 46.56, winning the race by almost two full seconds.

The two wins continued a strong sophomore season for the Chicago native, who has five SCIAC first-place finishes to his credit. Saturday's tri-meet marked the third time this season that Roeseler has finished in first place in the 100, after also winning the event in a tri-meet with Occidental and Caltech back in November, and again in a road meet with Redlands two weekends ago. He also won the 50 against Chapman in the Stags' SCIAC opener against Chapman on Nov. 10, and was a close second against Pomona-Pitzer in the 50 (by .27) and the 200 (by .11) on Dec. 1, putting him firmly in contender status for SCIAC Championships later this month.

CMS finished the regular season 7-1 against SCIAC competition and will have its final tune-up before the postseason when it participates in the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational this Saturday. The SCIAC Diving Championships will then be held at Pomona-Pitzer on Feb. 16-17, with the SCIAC Swimming Championships taking place one week later in Commerce, California, from Feb. 21-24.
