Claire Bacon Brenes - Women's Swimming and Diving

Over the weekend, the No. 15 CMS women’s swimming and diving team went toe-to-toe with the neighbors across the street. While the Sagehens edged the Athenas in the team competition, Claire Bacon-Brenes was a standout in the dual. She won two individual events and played a large part in a relay victory for CMS.

She won the 100 Breast (1:04.76) and 200 Breast (2:22.51) in convincing fashion and was a member of the Athenas’ 400 Medley Relay that won in a time of 3:54.15. In the 100 Breast, she won by more than three seconds and also claimed an NCAA B cut. The Scripps College sophomore, nearly doubled that margin by winning the 200 Breast by over six seconds. In the process she shattered the Haldeman Pool record by over three seconds and earned another NCAA B cut.

Bacon-Brenes also played a key part in another pool record helping the Athenas win the 400 Medley Relay (3:54.15).

Across five total events in the dual, Bacon-Brenes helped contribute a total of 36 team points for the Athenas (15 from relays and 21 from individual events).

The Athenas will now take off from competition for the next month before getting underway in the Cal Baptist Distance Meet on Jan. 5.
