Mehron Abdi - Men's Soccer

CLAREMONT, Calif. – Senior Mehron Abdi (CMC) has been named Athlete of the Week for his contributions to the men’s soccer team’s undefeated start.

The forward’s positioning and finishing ability was put on display in their first conference game against Occidental on Sept. 7. In the 14th minute, Abdi had the ball in the box and made a run at goal, but was fouled hard by his marker to draw a penalty. The senior drilled the shot at the lower left corner at ease to give CMS the lead.

Abdi’s impact went beyond the scoresheet in Friday’s comeback victory against Pacific (OR). Down 1-0, the forward subbed in the 65th and his presence was immediately felt. 10 seconds after his introduction, Abdi strung passes alongside Michael Crowley in the middle of the field and found an open Ian Shelton. Shelton took a shot that bounced off the post, but Luc Stervinou was there to put the ball in the net, awarding Abdi with the hockey assist.

The Stags are currently 4-0-0, a significant improvement over last season’s four game start where they went 0-3-1. They will look to continue their winning streak on the road against University of Redlands on Sept. 14 at 7:00 p.m.
