Vaiva Palunas – Women’s Track & Field
(3/28 – 4/3) – Junior Vaiva Palunas (SCR) officially broke the SCIAC discus throw record (46.40/152-03) on April 2 at CMS’ SCIAC meet at Redlands. She was just two centimeters short of her CMS record (46.42) which she had at February's Rossi Relays during the pre-season. She is currently the national leader in the discus event. Palunas also had a PR in the hammer throw (49.98/164-00) to move to No. 4 on the CMS all-time list and her mark ranks eighth nationally in 2016 and she won the shot put event. As a team, the Athenas defeated Redlands 107-55 and Whittier 129-27 to move to 4-0 in SCIAC with the Pomona-Pitzer Invite coming up on April 9.
On April 5, Palunas was voted as the SCIAC's Athlete of the Week as well.
