Matthew Williams – Men’s Swimming
(2/15 – 2/21) Junior Matthew Williams (CMC) was named SCIAC Male Athlete of the Year after the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men’s swimming and diving team earned its ninth-straight SCIAC Championship at Spalsh! La Mirada Feb. 18-21. In 2016, Williams finished first in 21 SCIAC events and second in three SCIAC events. In the SCIAC Championships he earned first place accolades in the 200 free relay, 100 butterfly, 100 backstroke, 400 medley relay, 200 backstroke and 400 free relay with a second place finish in the 200 medley relay. Williams helped the 400 free frelay team break a 3-year-old meet record, coming in at a final time of 3:00.87. In addition, the third year Stag from Bellevue, Wash. holds five current school and SCIAC records in the 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke, 200 free relay, 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay.
Williams was also named SCIAC Male Athlete of the Week on Feb. 23, 2016.
