Training camps start and schedules posted for fall sports
CLAREMONT, Calif. – With preseason training camps for the fall sport teams starting, the competition schedules for cross country, men’s and women’s soccer, football, volleyball, and men’s water polo have been posted on the CMS Athletics website. The composite schedule for all CMS Athletics events can be found here and a brief preview and direct link to the schedule page for each sport can be found below. (Please note that schedules are subject to change.)
Cross Country - Schedule
The Stags and Athenas cross country teams begin the season competing at the Nationball Classic and the UC Riverside Invitational in Sept. Then, some runners travel north for the Stanford Invitational while the rest remain local to compete in the CSU San Bernardino Invite. October brings the entirety of SCIAC competition with the championships to be held on Oct. 31. The cross country teams return to campus to start training on Aug. 24.
Men’s Soccer - Schedule
The Stag soccer team opens their season on the road playing Trinity and Hardin-Simmons in San Antonio, Tex. before returning to California and jumping directly into SCIAC play. The first home game for the CMS men is against Caltech on Sept. 16 and then both the Stags and Athenas play on Oct. 21 for a double header on a Wednesday evening. The men’s team starts training on Aug. 21.
Women’s Soccer - Schedule
The Athena soccer team hosts four non-conference foes in early Sept.: San Diego Christian, Smith Washington University (Mo.) and Willamette. SCIAC play begins on Sept. 16 on the road at Redlands. The Athenas will host their annual alumni event on Oct. 11 before the team plays UC Santa Cruz. The women’s team returns to campus on Aug. 18.
Football - Schedule
In the first game of the season on Sept. 5, the Stags host Puget Sound from the Northwest Conference. The team travels up to Oregon to take on Lewis & Clark in early Sept. and then returns to play the entirety of the SCIAC season, crescendoing into the annual Battle of Sixth Street against Pomona-Pitzer on Nov. 14. That weekend marks Homecoming and the Hall of Fame Banquet. The football team started workouts on Aug. 16.
Volleyball - Schedule
The Athenas open up the season hosting the annual Pacific Coast Classic tournament. CMS competes in the Posada Royale Invitational hosted by Cal Lutheran before traveling to Atlanta, Ga. for the Emory National Invitational in mid-Sept. SCIAC play rounds out the rest of the season, except for a non-conference match against Southwestern (Tex.). The team returns to campus on Aug. 21 to begin training.
Men’s Water Polo - Schedule
The Stag water polo team begins the 2015 season in Providence, R.I., competing in the Brown Invitational. The team returns to California for four more tournaments before starting SCIAC play against La Verne on Oct. 17 and continuing through to the championships Nov. 20-22. The Stags host their annual Alumni event on Oct. 24 after playing Occidental. The CMS men return on Aug. 23 for preseason training.
