A new record for CMS in national D-III Directors’ Cup standings

CLEVELAND, Ohio. – By ending the school year in 11th place in the 2014-15 NCAA Division III Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup final standings which were released on June 4, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athletics secured its highest finish in the standings in program history. CMS has had continued success in the 20-plus year existence of the Directors’ Cup competition, which awards points based on a team’s finish at the NCAA Championships.

The Athenas and Stags have now finished in the top-25 nationally five-consecutive times and this is the eighth-straight school year that CMS has improved on or tied its mark from the year prior. In 2007-08, CMS finished in 80th. Following 2007-08, CMS has finished in 34th, 27th, 24th, 14th, 13th, tied for 13th and now 11th.

With a total of 727.50 points, CMS finished just 3.5 points away from a first-ever top-10 finish. After the winter season, CMS sat in 14th place. CMS then moved up three spots based on the success of its spring teams, highlighted by the men’s tennis team winning CMS’ first national title since 1981.

CMS earned points in 2014-15 with 12 teams making appearances in their respective NCAA Championships. Women’s cross country (10th - 67.5 pts.), men’s cross country (15th – 60 pts.) and women’s volleyball (5th – 73 pts.) were the fall sports to place at the NCAAs. Women’s basketball (33rd – 25 pts.), men’s basketball (17th – 50 pts.), women’s swim & dive (16th – 58.5 pts.) and men’s swim & dive (5th – 75 pts.) were the winter sports to place at the NCAAs.
