Fall ends with CMS in top-20 nationally in D-III Directors’ Cup standings

WESTLAKE, Ohio – In the final fall NCAA Division III Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup standings, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps finished in 19th overall with a total of 200.50 points. CMS’ top-20 fall ranking is tops among D-III programs on the West Coast and in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC). The final fall standings were released on Dec. 24 by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA).

Women’s cross country (67.5), men’s cross country (60) and women’s volleyball (73) were the fall teams for CMS that placed at their respective NCAA Championships and earned points for CMS. Volleyball placed fifth while women’s cross country and men’s cross country placed 10th and 15th, respectively. The final fall Directors’ Cup standings included results from the following fall sports: women’s cross country, men’s cross country, women’s field hockey, football, women’s soccer, men’s soccer, men’s water polo and volleyball. 

Updated Directors’ Cup standings will be released four more times over the remainder of the 2014-15 school year. The final winter standings will be released on April 2 while the final standings for the entire 2014-15 school year are scheduled to be released on June 4.

CMS has had continued success in the 19-plus year existence of the Directors’ Cup competition which awards points based on a team’s finish at the NCAA Championships. CMS has been the top finishing SCIAC representative in 14 of the first 19 years of the Directors’ Cup and has finished in the top-60 overall (out of 400-plus institutions) 17 times with 11 top-30 finishes. CMS finished in a tie for 13th during the 2013-14 school year which was a tie for the program’s best finish ever in the national competition.
