Depth Carries Athenas to Eighth-Straight SCIAC Title, McKillop First

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's cross country placed five runners in the top ten and 12 in the top 24 to claim their eighth-straight SCIAC Championship on Saturday morning. Running at Prado Park in Chino, the Athenas ran away from the field, scoring 30 team points, topping second-place Occidental (80 points) by 50 points. Bryn McKillop (SC) continued her impressive senior season by winning the individual title in a time of 22:36.55 in the 6K race.

Stags Spoil Leopards' Homecoming, Edge La Verne on Road

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps football team stopped a two-game slide on Saturday evening with a 17-7 victory over the La Verne on the Leopards' Homecoming. The victory improves the Stags to 4-3 on the season and bumps them to 2-2 in the SCIAC. CMS attempted just 14 passes in the game, but used an effective ground attack and strong defense to earn the 10-point victory.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men’s soccer team ended the 2017 season with a 3-0 victory against the La Verne Leopards on Saturday afternoon. Aidan Johnson (CMC) opened the scoring with a goal in the fifth minute and Daniel Rohde (HMC) collected a brace with a goal in each half. In goal, Connor Gaskin (CMC) made six saves in the Stags’ third shutout of the season.

No. 7 Athenas End Regular Season with Sweep of Cal Lu

On Saturday evening, the No. 7 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s volleyball team completed the regular season with a 3-0 (25-11, 25-19, 25-11) sweep against the Cal Lutheran Regals. Shelbi Stein led the CMS attack with 16 kills and a .414 hitting percentage. Crystal Anderson (CMC) joined Stein with double-digit kills, finishing the match with 11.

Swimming and Diving Opens Season With Strong Showing at UC San Diego

On Saturday afternoon the Clarmemont-Mudd-Scripps swimming and diving teams opened the 2017-18 season with a trip to UC San Diego to take on the Division II Tritons. The No. 14 Stags dropped a close 148-135 match against the No. 7 team in Division II, while the No. 16 Athenas fell by a 175-114 final against the No. 10 (DII) Tritons.

Thomas D'Anieri (CMC) Kevin Huang (HMC) finished in the top ten on Saturday morning to help the No. 25 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men’s cross country team to a third-place finish at the SCIAC Championships. Running at Prado Park in Chino, D’Anieri crossed the line in 25:49.59 to finish the SCIAC Championships in third-place. Kevin Huang (HMC) joined D'Anieri in the top ten with a seventh-place finish in a time of 26:10.81 in the 8K race.

Early Redlands Score Holds, Athenas Wrap 2017 Season

With the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s soccer team needing a victory to extend their season to the SCIAC Playoffs, the Athenas fell in heartbreaking fashion 1-0 to the Redlands Bulldogs. A goal early in the first-half off the foot of Madison Mills was the difference in the contest.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men’s water polo took to Axelrood Pool on Saturday for a pair of matches. First up it was the No. 16 Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens taking the short walk across the street for the Sixth Street Rivalry Match. The Stags held a lead in the fourth-quarter, but could not hold on and the Sagehens earned the 6-5 victory. In the second match of the day, the No. 8 Pepperdine Wave took out the Stags 18-8.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s volleyball team took to the road on Friday night and spoiled the Whittier Poets’ senior night with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-23) victory. Seven different Athenas collected at least three kills in the match with Crystal Anderson (CMC) leading the way with nine kills.

Tomorrow morning, the Stags and Athenas begin the postseason with the SCIAC Championships on Saturday morning at Prado Regional Park in Chino, Calif. The morning will kick off with the men getting underway at 9:00 a.m. The women’s race will follow at 9:45 a.m. The Athenas head into the postseason ranked No. 5 in the country while the Stags check-in at No. 25 in Division III.

This Saturday marks the start of the 2017-18 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s swimming and diving season. The Athenas, who were recently picked No. 16 in the CSCAA NCAA Division III Preseason Poll, start off the season with a dual at UC San Diego. The Athenas will travel to the Tritons tomorrow afternoon for their opening season meet at 12:00 p.m.

As hard as it is to believe, the 2017-18 men’s swimming and diving season is already here. The Stags begin the new season tomorrow afternoon when they travel to UC San Diego to take on the Tritons in a dual at noon. Last week the Stags were ranked 14th in the CSCAA NCAA Division III Preseason Poll and will be put to the test immediately with a meet against the Division II No. 7 Tritons.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's soccer team kept their SCIAC playoff hopes alive with a 1-0 victory over the Whittier Poets on Wednesday night. Sarah Malott (CMC) connected in the ninth minute off a pass from Rhiann Holman (CMC) for her fifth goal of the season and the lone tally of the evening.

The No. 7 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's volleyball team took care of the Occidental Tigers in straight sets on Tuesday evening to claim their fifth SCIAC Championship in program history. With two more matches left in the regular season, the 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-16) victory on Tuesday night pushed CMS to 13-1 in the SCIAC and gives the Athenas the 2017 SCIAC Championship. The win also locks the Athenas into the top seed in the upcoming conference tournament, which begins next Thursday.
