The Gary Troyer Tournament ended on a positive note for the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's water polo team as the Stags upset Division II Concordia University in a 12-11 comeback thriller on Saturday night to close the weekend.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps football team continued their strong start to SCIAC play by shutting out the Occidental Tigers 37-0 on Saturday afternoon. The Stags overwhelmed the Tigers on both sides of the ball, collecting 459 yards on offense and limiting the Tigers to just 113 yards. The CMS defense allowed Occidental to gain just six first downs and collected a half dozen sacks in the contest.

Despite the rough start, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s volleyball team got the job done in convincing fashion as they defeated cross-street rival Pomona-Pitzer 3-1 (21-25, 25-11, 25-12, 25-19).

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and La Verne women’s soccer teams battled to a 0-0 draw after 110 minutes on Saturday night. The Athenas and Leopards each had chances late in the contest with the Leopards actually finding the back of the net at the end of regulation. The goal however, would not count as it crossed the goal-line after the horn sounded for the end of regulation.

The Sixth Street Rivalry rematch finished in favor of the Sagehens on Saturday afternoon, as the Stags took a tough 2-1 loss. Trailing 2-0 for majority of the match, the Stags worked hard to stage a comeback. Isaiah Alba (CMC) managed to bring CMS within one with a goal in the 67th minute, but the Stags' comeback attempt fell short.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men’s water polo got off to a strong start at the Gary Troyer Tournament, earning a hard-fought 17-10 victory over Connecticut College on Friday afternoon. The two teams were fairly close in the first half of the match, but the Stags came out sharper in the second half and pulled away for their seventh win of the season.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s volleyball team extended their winning streak to four games after a gritty 3-0 sweep (25-14, 25-23, 25-19) over the University of Redlands Bulldogs. Despite finishing the game quickly, the Athenas were tested by the Bulldogs, especially during the second set when CMS overcame a three-point deficit to take a 2-0 set lead.

The Stags and Kingsmen went the distance on Wednesday evening, after 90 minutes of play the score stood even at 1-1. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps had all sorts of chances in the first overtime period, but were unable to find the back of the cage for the golden goal. Despite dangerous chances from Cal Lutheran in the second overtime, the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

It took the Athenas a rocket from 20 yards out by Wren Osler (CMC) to edge out the University of Redlands with a 2-1 victory on Wednesday night. In an evenly contested match, the two teams held each other scoreless for majority of the game, but the game took an explosive turn starting in the 70th minute as the two teams combined for three goals in an eight minute span.

On Wednesday night the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men’s water polo team steamrolled the visiting La Verne Leopards 18-8 in Axelrood Pool. The Stags scored at least four goals in each period en route to the double-digit victory.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's volleyball team extended it's winning streak to three after defeating the Cal Lutheran Regals on the road 3-1 (25-13, 17-25, 25-15, 25-21). As both sides tried to make adjustments to outplay each other, the Athenas ultimately prevailed thanks to their ability to limit the Regals' offense and generate plenty of free ball opportunities.

The Stags closed the Western New Mexico University Fall Intercollegiate tied for 10th, shooting 296 in the third round for a total score of 876 in the three-day tournament. Austin Long (CMC) carded a two-over, 74 on Tuesday to finish the tournament tied for 14th-place. Long was the highest finisher for the Stags with a three-under, 213 across the three rounds.
