Long Goes Low, Stags 10th After Two Rounds

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's golf team is wrapping up their fall season this week with a trip to the Western New Mexico Fall Intercollegiate. The Invitational opened on Monday with two rounds. The Stags shot an opening round 295 (+7) before dropping 10 strokes and carding a 285 (-3) in the afternoon session to sit alone in tenth place heading to the final round tomorrow. Texas A&M - Commerce leads the tournament with a team score of 559 (-17) after two rounds.

This weekend the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s tennis team had a strong showing at the ITA West Regional. Playing on their home court at the Biszantz Tennis Center, the Athenas accounted for three of the four semifinalists in the singles competition and three of the four semifinalist teams in the double competition. Catherine Allen (SC) defeated Nicole Tan (CMC) in the championship of the singles competition by a 6-2, 6-2 final.

Stags Shine in ITA West Regional

The Clarmeont-Mudd-Scripps men’s tennis team kicked off the fall season in successful fashion as the Stags hosted the ITA West Regionals at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center over the weekend. Despite having graduated four starters from the 2017 No 2. ranked team, CMS sent more players deeper into the singles and doubles draws than any of the 10 teams in the field.

Late Pick Seals Close Tilt at Whittier

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps football team escaped Whittier on Saturday night with a 41-34 victory over the Poets. Whittier scored 17 fourth-quarter points and were driving in the final two minutes looking for the game-tying score, but Cade Moffatt (CMC) snagged his first career interception with 1:23 remaining to seal the victory for the Stags.

Another page in the illustrative history between Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Pomona-Pitzer was written on Saturday evening as the Sagehens edged the Stags 1-0 in front of a packed house on Pritzlaff Field. Pomona-Pitzer found the back of the net in the 16th minute from the left-side off the foot of Aidan Ferrer for the lone score of the contest.

Margot Mafra Spencer finished with 11 kills and 12 digs on Saturday.
Athenas Write-Off Whittier in Straight Sets

After a tight 3-2 victory on Friday night at Occidental, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s volleyball team was right back at it on Saturday afternoon, hosting Whittier in Roberts Pavilion. The Athenas made quick work of the Poets winning in straight-sets, 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-21).

Saturday's rematch against Occidental College provided similar results for the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's water polo team as the Stags tamed the Tigers in a 17-7 victory. Five different Stags scored multiple goals as Nick Britt (CMC), Noah Deer (CMC), and Arya Nakhjavani (CMC) co-led with three goals each while Ethan Lewis (CMC) and Peter Tilton (CMC) both tallied a pair.

Ninety minutes was not enough to decide a winner in Saturday morning's women's soccer match between the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athenas and the Whittier Poets. However, just nine minutes into the first overtime period the Athenas were fouled in the box and Sarah Malott (CMC) put through the ensuing penalty kick to give CMS the 1-0 victory.

On Friday night the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's volleyball team traveled to Occidental to take on the Tigers in a SCIAC match. The Athenas dropped the opening set 25-20, but rallied back to take the match 3-2 (20-25, 25-12, 25-19, 15-25, 15-10).

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s cross country team brought out the brooms as the Athenas swept through the SCIAC Dual Meet 7-0. Despite the high number of slopes at La Mirada Regional Park, the Athenas managed to see four runners in the top-10 and seven in the top-15.

The first day of the Lancers Invitational ended in partial success for the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's water polo team nearly upset Division II Cal Baptist University in a 8-7 loss before defeating Occidental College handily 13-6.

On Friday afternoon the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's golf team edged the La Verne Leopards 279-282 in a dual at Los Serranos Country Club. Jonathan Shaw (CMC), Austin Long (CMC), and Alex Wrenn (CMC) all went under-par with rounds of 67, 68, and 71, respectively, to fuel a nine-under team score of 279. Shaw's five-under, 67, was the low round of the afternoon and gave the senior his second tournament victory of the season.

Two goals in the opening minute by Graham Fullerton (CMC) and Zack Rossman (CMC) gave the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men’s water polo team an early 2-0 against their sixth street rival, Pomona-Pitzer. The early goals were not enough as the Sagehens went on for the 11-5 victory.
