Bacon-Brenes Breaks a Pair of Pool Records in Victory over LMU

Sophomore Claire Bacon-Brenes (SC) broke the Axelrood Pool records in both the 100 and 200 Breaststroke on Saturday afternoon in a dual against Division I Loyola Marymount University. The Athenas handled the visiting Lions 189-73 with CMS winning 12 of the 14 events contested on the day.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s basketball team built a 31-18 lead at halftime before cruising to a 69-52 victory over the Cal Lutheran Regals on Saturday evening. Kate Parrish (CMC) scored 14 points off the bench to lead 10 different scorers for the Athenas in the victory. CMS forced 19 turnovers and held the Regals to a 34.0% mark from the field in the game. Maya Love filled up the box score with 10 points, eight rebounds, and six assists in the 17-point victory.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s track and field team opened the 2018 season at the Westmont On Your Marks Meet on Saturday. The Athenas’ effort was highlighted by a pair of victories from 2017 All-Americans. Emily Bassett (CMC) claimed the weight throw with a toss of 15.66 meters and Tyra Abraham (SC) won the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.52.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men’s basketball team used a strong second-half to defeat the Cal Lutheran Kingsmen 76-57 on Saturday afternoon for their seventh-straight victory. Miles President (HMC) scored 16 points after the break and 19 in the game to lead four double-digit scorers for the Stags. Kendrick Morris (CMC) scored 10 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season and his second in a row.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men’s track and field team opened the 2018 season at the Westmont On Your Marks Meet on Saturday. While the Stags did not bring their full roster to the event, CMS had a strong showing in their season opener with Alex McDonald (CMC) providing the highlight of the day with a victory in the 400 meter dash (50.81). Including McDonald’s victory, the Stags collected four top-three finishes.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's water polo team began the 2018 season with a doubleheader against Loyola Marymount and Azusa Pacific on Saturday. The Athenas fell to both Loyola Marymount and Azusa Pacific by identical 11-5 scores. Against Loyola Marymount, Aracelia Aldrete (CMC) and Jessica Gaffney (CMC) each scored two goals to lead the Athenas' offense. In the second match of the day against Azusa Pacific, Amelia Ayala (CMC) chipped in two goals and Chandlyr Denaro (CMC) finished the day with 15 saves.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s track and field team is just hours away from getting the 2018 season underway. While Bryn McKillop (SC) raced at the University of Washington two weeks ago, tomorrow’s meet at the Westfield Wake-Up will serve as a more official start to the 2018 season. In addition to their normal outdoor slate, the Athenas will compete in a handful of indoor events including tomorrow’s meet at Westfield and the Howie Ryan Invite at the University of Houston (Feb. 9).

The No. 3 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s tennis team is just one week away from getting the 2018 season underway. The Athenas travel to Azusa Pacific on Feb. 2 for their first match of the season when they take on the Cougars at 3:00 p.m. The 2018 slate will feature 17 home matches, beginning with contests against Caltech and UC San Diego on Feb. 3 of opening weekend.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men’s basketball team avenged their only conference loss this season with a win over the Bulldogs from the University of Redlands by an 80-66 final on Wednesday night. Senior guard Michael Scarlett (CMC) dropped 24 points to lead the Stags’ offense and Kendrick Morris (CMC) posted a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. With the victory, the Stags improve to 9-7 overall and 7-1 in SCIAC play.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s basketball team held the Redlands Bulldogs to just 45 points and did enough on the offensive end to take home a 58-45 victory on Wednesday night. Kailee Severt (CMC) dropped 16 points, thanks in large part to a 9-10 effort from the free throw line to lead the scoring for CMS. Kate Parrish (CMC) added 12 points off the bench to help lead the Athenas past the Bulldogs for their eighth SCIAC victory of the season. Maya Love (CMC) finished a point shy of a double-double, grabbing a team-high 12 rebounds and collecting nine points.
